BOSTON | Wed Oct 30, 2013 11:53pm EDT

BOSTON (Reuters) - David Ortiz was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 World Series on Wednesday after helping lead the Boston Red Sox to victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Ortiz received the award at Fenway Park after the Red Sox won Game Six 6-1 to clinch the best-of-seven series 4-2.

The 37-year-old was an unstoppable force during the series, smashing two home runs and batting a remarkable .688 (11-for-16) with six runs batted in (RBI) over the series.

He set the tone for Boston's victory when he hit the first home run of the series in Game One at Fenway Park, blasting a 408-foot shot off relief pitcher Randy Choate over center.

In Game Two, Ortiz smashed a 375-foot homer over the Green Monster off Cardinals rookie sensation Michael Wacha.
